Series Four
An artistic series of self-portraits - taken by Kamdi Okonjo
This mixed-media piece celebrates Africa's incredible visual richness. Through powerful imagery and saturated colours, it channels the 'African Element,' honouring the continent's creative spirit.
Part Four of the Africans of the Diaspora series celebrates the beauty and historical significance of embracing the African element. The 'African element' refers to the unique traditions, vibrant cultures, and everyday lives within African communities. Kamdi’s journey began with a lack of pride in her heritage, but exposure to films that celebrate African history and culture, such as Queen of Katwe and Black Panther, inspired a profound transformation. She gained a renewed perspective on herself, her continent, and her country. Ultimately, she embraced her identity as an African of the diaspora, proud of her roots and home.
