Reimagining African Architecture
What we do
At AFA, we honor Africa’s architectural heritage while envisioning its future. By studying traditional designs, from huts to mud constructions, we strip away colonial influences and reimagine how these structures could thrive in the 21st century.
Using AI and human creativity, we adapt these ideas for diverse climates and modern needs, creating spaces that celebrate culture, sustainability, and innovation.
Some of our projects
Event Space - Accra, Ghana
A modern Ghanaian building lobby with wooden wall panels featuring laser-etched Kente patterns. The concrete ceiling forms curved arches inspired by baobab tree branches, providing structural support and visual interest.
A spiral staircase connects the levels. Warm sunset light streams through large windows, illuminating the space where traditional Ashanti design elements blend with contemporary architecture to create a distinctly African modern aesthetic.

Hotel Leisure Lounge - Cape Town, South Africa
This is a contemporary leisure lounge in Cape Town, South Africa, blending sleek modern design with indigenous cultural elements.
We created a ceiling installation that mimics the sweeping curves of the incredible mountains in Cape Town, crafted from layered metal panels, painted in white, that reflect natural light. The plush seating areas incorporate rich leather and woven sisal textures, inviting relaxation. Do not forget the bar!
The clerestory windows allow natural light to enter while maintaining privacy and wall space below. The overall atmosphere harmonizes traditional South African artistry with sophisticated, urban elegance.

Restaurant - Abuja, Nigeria
A sophisticated restaurant interior located within a lobby, inspired by a fusion of Ghanaian Kente, Ethiopian influences, and Nigerian aesthetics. Organic white arches curve gracefully overhead, incorporating skylights that allow warm, natural light to bathe the space. Lush green plants are thoughtfully integrated into sleek planters, enhancing the ambiance with a touch of nature. A stylish bistro features modern stools, while relaxed seating areas offer comfort with cushions textiles showcasing intricate fabric textures. Rich materials such as smooth stone surfaces and wood grains add depth and warmth throughout the environment.
Wooden wall panels display laser-etched Kente patterns, paying homage to Ghanaian heritage. The concrete ceiling echoes the form of baobab tree branches, creating structural arches that blend strength with artistry. The overall atmosphere channels the luxury and refined elegance of a premium Ethiopian hotel lobby, merging traditional Ashanti and contemporary African design into a harmonious, modern aesthetic.
